GreenLink Ecology Ltd has substantial experience of ecology surveys, from basic ecological scoping surveys, to more detailed botanical assessments and ecological appraisals. Our consultant ecologists are trained surveyors, able to identify a wide range of species, from a variety of habitats.

One of the fundamental constraints to ecology survey work is the seasonality of the species of wildlife which are being surveyed for. Some protected and notable species of wildlife hibernate, migrate or are only in flower for periods of the year and their presence/absence cannot be adequately surveyed for. The timing of ecology survey work is sometimes restricted to a small window during the year and therefore it is best practice to plan ecology survey in as early as possible.

Forecasting the need for ecology surveys is especially important in terms of applying for planning permission, since Local Authorities are required under Planning Policy Statement 9 (PPS9), to base decisions on up-to-date baseline information about the environmental characteristics of an area, including the presence of, or potential for, protected species of wildlife or their habitats. A lack of such information will usually result in the planning application being rejected, potentially causing lengthy delays, with financial implications. Contact us for a free and informal discussion regarding your ecology survey requirements.
